For some, getting a new car isn’t an option. Either they can’t afford the car payments or their current automobile has a special value to them, such as being their first car or their dream car. We get that here at Automobile Diagnostics, which is why we can replace your car’s engine if it needs it. Here are signs that the engine can’t be rebuilt anymore and your vehicle needs an entirely new one.
Too Much Exhaust
Too much exhaust can be a very bad sign. Generally, this means that you have serious engine damage and one or more of the following fluids is leaking throughout the engine: coolant, fuel, or motor oil. If the exhaust smoke is white, you are leaking coolant. Black exhaust smoke means you’re leaking fuel, and blue exhaust means motor oil is in the cylinders.
Knock, Knock…
Some engine knocking noises are not the sign of death. For example, your engine might be knocking because you have the wrong gasoline in it or your accessory belt is too loose. If your engine is suffering from rod knock, however, this means that the pistons are knocking against the crankshaft as they go up and down, and this seriously damages your engine.
Metal Shavings
If you have metal shavings in your motor oil, your vehicle will break down within a matter of minutes to hours. The reason why there is metal in the oil is that the parts over which the oil flows to lubricate are disintegrating into the motor oil. Basically, this means your engine is a goner and you will need to replace the entire engine to fix the problem.
Power Loss
Your vehicle’s engine could also be tired. Any piece of machinery has a certain lifespan and it simply cannot go beyond that lifespan no matter how well you maintain it. If your engine has gotten to the point that you are having to rebuild systems and it still doesn’t have any power, it’s time to replace the engine because it has reached the end of its lifespan.
Spewing Smoke
Finally, smoke spewing out from underneath the hood could mean that you’ve blown the head gasket or you have automotive parts that are actually melting. If the smoke is black, your engine is on fire, so you need to pull over right away, get out of the car, and call 911. Anytime your engine overheats to the point of smoke spewing out from underneath the hood, you’ve got a serious problem.
